Another 60’s entry that I forgot about, What a Way to Go!, and one that I haven’t seen recently, otherwise I’d post it. Though I have a really old version of this, I’d prefer to update with a better copy before inducting it here.

If you like the mink, (and at least it’s something other than brown) don’t get too attached, it appears for about 5 seconds total in a fantasy sequence in the film along with some other furs. The entire outfit would have been 5 stars if it were fox instead.

The real star of the film is the full length hot pink dyed fox coat that appears near the end of the movie. A favorite shade of mine. Miss MacLaine also wears a bit more conservative fox hat and trim combo for a nice long scene in the middle of the film.

  1. This is one of my all-time favorite movies for costumes, and the furs are a huge part of that. The head-to-toe canary yellow, the white, and even the pink… (Although aren’t some of them maribou feathers and not actually fur?)

So many people don’t even know about this film either! It’s always a treat to share it with one of the uninitiated – they don’t really know what to make of it. Personally, I love the odd, sexy, quirky little film, that’s actually not so little given all of the star power within it!

  2. You’re right, the yellow one may have been feathers, but it’s been so long that I can’t really remember. Hopefully I can get an updated version of it. I remember TCM showed it far more often years back. One of a few films that have kind of dried up there.

There is a video clip on Youtube that features the furs/feathers mentioned.
Personally I did not particularly like this film – far too much 60’s quirkiness for me but that is down to personal taste.

I much preferred her cameo appearance in Ocean’s Eleven, I do not care if she was drunk/drugged up; that stole was gorgeous.

Ms P&C, I am afraid that there are so many wonderful fur films out there that most people have never heard of and FurGlamor (bless him/her) has put me onto several of them!

  4. Yes, the Shirley MacLaine drunk scene from Ocean’s Eleven, which was a very nice white fox stole for a couple minutes in an otherwise completely dry film. Definitely could have used more of that.
