Heard enough about giallo on this blog? Well, how about a new, even more difficult-to-pronounce film genre: Poliziotteschi. AKA: Euro-crime, spaghetti crime films, or Italian Dirty Harry and Death Wish knock-offs. Yes, just like in good ole USA, cops were fed up with all these “law” things and had to take matters into their own hands, with a side of marinara! Dial up the Emergency Squad!
Emergency Squad – The Film
Speaking of a combination of Dirty Harry and Death Wish, we have this movie, which is about a cop who is out for revenge on the criminal who killed his wife.
Emergency Squad – The Furs
Forget the cop; we’re mostly here for Marta (Stefania Casini), the girlfriend of the gangster who did the deed. While her main squeeze is saving up for retirement, Marta isn’t doing too bad in her life of crime either, as she wears not one, but two blue fox coats. The first is a shorter jacket visible in a few brief scenes throughout the film.
The second and larger is this full-length model that appears during the lead-up to the film’s final scenes. This one also has limited time on screen, but at least it is all concentrated in a single sequence.
An honorable mention goes to Ilaria Guerrini in a limited role and her red fox coat that you will note is full length when she walks off out of focus at the end of the scene.
In the briefest of all the brief shots in this movie, Ilaria’s character, Fede, is seen working in a fur salon and trying on a mink for a customer during the opening credits.
Remember how often the word brief appears in this update? Well, that is because there is only a grand total of about three minutes of fur in the film. It is pretty lovely fur when it does show up, at least. It only manages to chalk up a three-point-five on the runtime scale, but we call this one a win for quality over quantity.
