And thus we hit the “Is this television or not?” stage. I am calling it TV since it has episodes, and I am too lazy to add a new category for “furs on streaming,” mainly because no one will ever search for that. This probably should have been a short, too, but I only figured that out while editing it. Anyway, here is real fur from Halston in the 2020s.

Halston – The Film

Bio series about Roy, a noted fashion designer who rose to fame in the 70s and early 80s before a brief interlude doing casualwear for JC Penny. His designs include big fox coats, and his downfall was linked to excessive drug use… so, standard ‘80s stuff.

Halston – The Furs

Episode 01

Here are some quick shots from the 60s of no one particularly famous wearing some fox collars and jackets. All very brief.

Episode 02

Enter LIza (Krysta Rodriguez), who aided Halston’s rise to fame and had her own drug-fueled success and eventual downfall arc with him.

Set against the “Battle of Versailles” in 1973, other designers show up with some extras in fur and pose for a group shot that I am sure you can find the real version of somewhere on the internet.

Episode 03

The Halston name applies to many things, including a successful perfume. Collaborator and jewelry designer Elsa Peretti (Rebecca Dayan) wears a Halston fox coat in the episode where it takes center stage.

Episode 04

The drug-fueled downfall episode, which sees Liza’s collapse, intercut with a dramatization of the claim someone died while trying to get into the club via the air vents. The someone is wearing a suitably shabby red fox coat. For those interested in Liza’s big post-rehab comeback film, you are in luck: Rent-A-Cop. (You are in luck, Liza was not.)

Later, Elsa, in her same fur coat from the previous episode, ends their collab with a bit of alcohol-fueled fur coat destruction. I’m sure the fact that it was a “Halston” fur was in no way supposed to be symbolic. Also, to calm any “concern” you may have, it is clearly a “stunt coat” being lightly doused in what is almost assuredly just water. Movie Magic!

Overall, I would say the series is “disappointing,” but I also feel I have to adjust that for “2020 expectations” and say, well, hey, at least we got real fur. I suspect the odds we would get an entire episode devoted to Halston’s fur designs were always pretty slim, and the perfume was more likely. Still, this is probably the best you can expect from 2020s media.
