Season 2 is where Dynasty solidifies into what would eventually conquer 80s evening television. New writers ditched all those shabby blue-collar plotlines and corporate oil business maneuvering to turn it into, well, a proper soap opera. They also cast Joan Collins as patriarch Blake’s ex-wife, which solidified the central antagonist role.
Arguably, none of it was particularly “groundbreaking,” but that misses the point. It was exceptionally well executed and cast, producing an entertaining product that shot up in the ratings. Joan Collins was not the first choice for the role, but with all due respect to Jessica Walter, we now look back and think no one could have done it better.
It is important to note that the formula is not quite finalized. Case in point, while the fur fashion certainly ramped up to a major degree vs. the first season, it is still not quite the pure “excess” that would occur later. Heck, even Alexis is somewhat “sensibly” dressed in Season 2, confined to “conservative” brown fur coats the show itself would say were the domain of “older” women.
Dynasty Season 02 – Stats
- Fur Episodes: 11
- Total Episodes: 22
- Total Fur Runtime: approx 19 minutes
Dynasty Season 02 – Episode 09
Find-a-Fur:
(All times are approximate)
- 42:00 – 44:30 – white feather trim nightrobe JC
It takes some time for anything to show up in Season 2, and the first fur-adjacent fashion is a down-trimmed nightgown worn by Alexis almost a third of the way into the season.
Dynasty Season 02 – Episode 10
Find-a-Fur:
(All times are approximate)
- 43:55 – 44:05 – badger? coat LE
- 46:15 – 47:15 – ”
Krystle (Linda Evans) lands the first real fur of the season in Episode 10, what appears to be a badger fur coat. Stick a pin in that one, we’ll be seeing “it” later.
Dynasty Season 02 – Episode 12
Find-a-Fur:
(All times are approximate)
- 37:50 – 39:55 – lynx coat LE
Despite being an episode skip, I believe the timeline lines up, and this is supposed to be the same coat. It is not, of course, as it is clearly a full-length lynx fur coat. Oh, and hey, everybody, it’s Dr. Nick!
Dynasty Season 02 – Episode 13
Find-a-Fur:
(All times are approximate)
- 30:20 – 31:40 – fur salon scene HL
This is my pick for the best episode of Season 2, for a couple of reasons. First, it is Season 2 addition Heather Locklear as “Sammy Jo,” and second, because the saleswoman’s dialogue about fur is 100% correct. Summary: mink is old lady fur, fox is the domain of the young and beautiful. The show goes out of its way to portray Sammy Jo as a dumbass and does so brilliantly as she petulantly demands a mink.
Will the show also subvert this trope with both Krystle and Alexis? Yes, though neither is the sort of aging dowager the coat Sammy Jo wants would look appropriate on. This scene opens with a shot of Alexis trying on a similar coat before later confronting Sammy Jo on her purchase. Sadly, both have given up their coats at that point.
Dynasty Season 02 – Episode 14
Find-a-Fur:
(All times are approximate)
- 26:30 – 28:30 – mink/sable? “brown” coat LE
As if the customers wished to remain consistent for one more episode, we find Krystle once more saying “Hey!” to Dr. Nick while wearing a pretty boring brown fur coat. Is it mink, sable, or ‘other’? It’s brown… just brown.
Dynasty Season 02 – Episode 15
Find-a-Fur:
(All times are approximate)
- 05:15 – HL Coat Found LE
- 07:45 – 08:10 – mink coat HL
Once more, we skip an episode to continue the storyline. Episode 15 sees Sammy Jo’s mink delivered and found by Krystle, who then confronts her about it. Notably, a very different coat than the one she appeared to want in Episode 13. The entire scene is very short.
The coat from Episode 13 with a very different collar:

Dynasty Season 02 – Episode 16
Find-a-Fur:
(All times are approximate)
- 15:20 – 16:25 – tail trim JC, lynx coat LE
- 20:00 – tail only
- 21:20 – 22:50 – ”
- 30:10 – 33:00 – lynx-dyed fox LE
A hospital episode finds the top cast together in fur, briefly. Alexis has a wrap trimmed with tails, and Krystle gets to leave the brown behind for a lynx-dyed fox stroller that, ironically, is similar to the one Sammy Jo did not want in Episode 13.
Dynasty Season 02 – Episode 18
Find-a-Fur:
(All times are approximate)
- 46:15 – 47:15 – light mink jacket LF
The start of the 2-episode “Light Mink Stroller” arc sees Krystle trying to take a gun from Claudia (Pamela Bellwood) at the end of the episode. It cuts away to the sound of a gunshot. *gasp* Who got shot?
Dynasty Season 02 – Episode 19
Find-a-Fur:
(All times are approximate)
- 03:00 – 4:20 – light mink jacket LF
- 06:10 – ”
- 08:20 – 09:35 – ”
- 20:50 – 21:25 – ”
- 22:20 – 25:10 – white feather trim nightrobe JC
- 27:00 – 29:30 – mink coat JC
- 30:10 – 30:50 – ”
Pamela. It was Pamela. Krystle walks out and then visits the hospital while wearing the mink. And, clearly, while the best legal team in the world prevents any delay-of-plot. Meanwhile, Alexis is doing Alexis things while wearing her down trim, then chatting with Fallon in the mink she presumably bought in Episode 13, and finally doing more Alexis things while wearing the mink (in bed.)
Episode 19 has “the most” fur in all of Season 2, though that last scene has a little too much for my taste.
Dynasty Season 02 – Episode 20
Find-a-Fur:
(All times are approximate)
- 02:50 – 03:40 – lynx-dyed fox jacket LE
In fairness, it may not be intended to be the same coat as seen in Episode 16, but we can add another continuity error if it is. Also, who in their right mind thought putting some god-awful knit collar and cuffs on a fox jacket was a good idea?
Dynasty Season 02 – Episode 22
Find-a-Fur:
(All times are approximate)
- 25:05 – 25:35 – lynx stroller LE
Season 2’s ‘fur finale’ is pretty brief, with Krystle wearing a lynx fur stroller for just about a half minute in Episode 22.
