This is more like the final 3rd of the season because there are more episodes where furs appear for a more extended period. Similar to the front end of the season, the furs dry up before the season finale because the season finale was set in Moldavia, which the producers seemed to think was in the Caribbean somewhere and not a mainly mountainous region of Europe. Technically, it was also a Soviet Republic in 1985, but I doubt the producers of Dynasty were doing a deep dive into the geo-political situation at the time.

History records that this was not the producers’ only mistake about events in Moldavia. The more well-known one is “the audience’s tolerance for asshattery.” It is beyond the scope of this blog, but suffice it to say that there is such a thing as raising the stakes too high and leaving nowhere to go. Ending on a cliffhanger where you strongly suggest you have slaughtered the entire cast did result in a historic television event, but it was also the exact moment Dynasty flew too close to the sun.

Episode 20 returns to our regularly scheduled fur fashion after the single episode skip that broke the uninterrupted chain of appearances between 7 and 27. SMH Episode 19, SMH.

As mentioned in Part 1, it is still rare for two characters to interact while wearing fur, but it happened twice in Season 5, both times with Alexis and Dominique. Their second go included the sable cuffs from earlier in the season and a lovely fox fur hat.

We take a brief detour through Krystle wearing what may be her gifted sable coat from last season.

Before Dominique finishes the episode in a pair of foxes: a boa and a classic ’80s big fox coat.

Dynasty Season 05 – Episode 21

We’re back in the hospital again as Claudia and… someone else… wear some pretty conservative, dare I say, “hospital-appropriate,” mink coats.

Another rarity in the entire show’s run: someone outside the main cast wears fur. In this case, a recurring side character, Nicole Simpon (Susan Scannell), wears an even shorter-haired black fur coat.

…before, thankfully, returning to something we saw earlier in the season—only better. Yes, the dyed fox returns, this time fully realized with a matching barrel muff. Ironically, this is one of the few times fur will be seen during a scene set in Moldavia. 

Krystle shows up later, apparently having borrowed Claudia’s mink coat. She’s exchanging wary glances with another big(ish) Season 5 guest star, Ali McGraw. 

Dynasty Season 05 – Episode 23

Alexis once more indulges her down desires.

The second time that rare “side character in fur” happens is far better than the first. A beautiful blue fox stroller appears on a character I think is “Martha” (Dorothy Patterson). It only appears for a few seconds.

Much like the mink worn by Krystle as she leaves after being convinced Blake is… uh… drilling for oil in the Ali McGraw fields.

Dynasty Season 05 – Episode 24

Episode 24 is a busy one, and it kicks off with Claudia’s fur-wearing permit being upgraded to “lynx.” 

Alexis then appears in a fox-trimmed cape, and hat dyed precisely the same shade of tan as her other iconic fox-trimmed hat and trim from earlier this season. She works it like a runway model before removing the cape, leaving the hat to hang around a little longer.

Amanda’s stole-wearing habit continues by splitting the difference between black and white. 

I won’t say this adds to the total number of “characters interacting in fur” because, while Dominique and Krystle appear in the same scene, Krystle does not speak with Dominique or appear on screen with her.

Finally, I will leave it up to the reader to decide whether Alexis Colby’s many crimes include fox-napping.

Dynasty Season 05 – Episode 25

Krystle wears what is notably one of the few silver fox coats seen over the show’s whole run.

Amanda does pull her weight a little bit towards the end of the season, and she has a couple of extended fur fashion scenes, including one in this fox-trimmed mink jacket.

Dynasty Season 05 – Episode 26

In Episode 26, ‘Alexis’s wardrobe of random clothes with fur trim gets a real workout, starting with a brown fox collar.

Briefly interrupted by Amanda, only holding onto the same coat from the last episode.

It ends with these dyed fox sleeves, which strongly feature in a rather classic, literal “bodice ripper” episode between Alexis and That One Black-Haired Guy Alexis Sleeps With Sometimes. Spoiler alert: she sleeps with him. 

Dynasty Season 05 – Episode 27

In an abundance of caution, I will include the extremely brief, extremely dark shot of Amanda walking to a limo in what may be a black fur coat. If I skip it, I know I’ll get a comment like, “How could you have left out Amanda’s spectacular black mink coat from Episode 27?!!”

The answer to that question is, usually: I just missed it. And, if I missed it, it was probably just a blip in the runtime and barely worth noticing in the first place. And, yes, I think less of you if you comment like that.

Dominque returns in what I am fairly confident is a different fox stole than we saw earlier, this time with a matching hat. 

Episode 27 features a scene where Alexis and Amanda are fur shopping. Alexis checks out a black fox stole, presumably to say, “I already have one exactly like this.” 

This flows directly into the “We got the budget for a car chase!” scene, which involves Amanda’s frustratingly feathered blue fox jacket. 

Finally, dark horse pick Amanda closes out the fur fashion season with the same fox-trimmed mink seen just a few episodes earlier.

The final episodes are devoid of fur as the build-up to the big finale is underway in this unseasonably warm version of Moldavia. This is even more amusing as the “clearly unseasonably warm” version of Denver shot in LA certainly never proved to be much of an issue with the characters’ decisions to wear fur.
