What can I say? Like fur fashion in the ‘80s, this story does not have a happy ending. After the lackluster seventh season, the budget and episode order were reduced to 22. This means the residents of Las Denverles were not buying many new furs. That is something of a blessing in disguise, as Alexis returns in a couple of iconic outfits from Season 6. 

While you may notice the stats did not severely drop vs Season 7, there is still quite a bit of ‘filler’ and entirely forgettable outfits, particularly in the first half of the season. The second half of Season 8 gives a glimmer of old glory, but it is fleeting at best.

Case in point: The first three episodes pick up exactly where the finale left off, and I am yet again forced to consider whether I can meticulously document every appearance of a small patch of mink. 

Narrator: They did not.

I feel like I should also point out that the mastermind behind the hostage situation was Season 1’s key “everyman, blue-collar” guy caught between the roughnecks on the oil rigs and the bigwigs in the main office. He returns here as a pretty standard, mustache-twirling soap villain.

Things don’t pick up much in the entirety of the first half of the season, with only sporadic sightings such as this sable on Alexis’ arm. Coat? Stole? None of the above? We shall never know.

Things finally start rolling in Episode 12 as Alexis’ white fox-trimmed gown brings something worthy of the show to the screen. 

It’s supported by “Dana” in a lovely golden isle fox stroller. Leann Hunley played Dana, and this is the first and last time we will hear from her.

Dynasty Season 08 – Episode 14

In this episode, Krystle teases us by holding a very large silver fox coat but never putting it on. 

Later, she shows up with a pair of fox cuffs, clearly trying to match Alexis’s fox sleeve game but failing. There is a flashback to a Season 3 episode with Alexis in a sable coat, but it’s fully documented there without the ‘hazy memory’ filter.

Most of what is best about Season 8 is packed into these last few episodes, starting with 16. I include the following out of an abundance of caution: It looks like a mink collar, but I also think it could be some kind of knitwear. Anyway, if it is the latter, I know some of you are fans, so enjoy.

Of course, we have a hospital scene. Here, we have Alexis convalescing in a down-sleeved robe while chatting with Fallon, who is wearing a fox-trimmed mink vest. I would have jokingly pointed out how Fallon looked a little different now, but the simple fact is, this is the first time I have ever talked about her because this is the first fur the character ever wore (not including The Colbys).

(And I will never need to talk about her again, either.)

Alexis recovers and gives a press conference wearing sable cuffs. I like to imagine Alexis just giving press conferences when she does pretty much anything.

Finally, we see the return of the first of two of the highlights of Season 6: the white fox-trimmed loungewear. This episode gives it even more attention, which it richly deserves.

Dynasty Season 08 – Episode 17

I’m not sure what the formal name of the color is, but boy, did the costume designers love it. This is a great throwback to the iconic Season 5 hat/muff/trim combo. It’s in the running for top 5 Alexis outfits.

The fur season ends a couple of episodes before the rest of the season with a black fox hat, muff, and trim that is cut down to just the hat for a very intermittent series of short reaction shots in a courtroom sequence. Hopefully, this gives you an idea of what kind of fur I will meticulously document across long stretches of film compared to the one in Episodes 1-3.
