Furs on Film – Serving Sara (2002)

As usual, here on this blog, we present only the highest-quality cinema. This week, we look at the comedy Serving Sara, which pulls in a staggering 4% on Rotten Tomatoes. That's like golf, right? Right?

Serving Sara – The Film

The movie is about people getting served, in this case, with divorce papers. Our “protagonist” (hero is far too strong and positive a word), Joe flips from serving divorce papers to Sara to Sara's soon-to-be ex-husband as she convinces him there is far more money in it for him. It's a comedy, so “complications ensue.” It's a 2000s comedy, so one of them in a 10-minute, plot-irrelevant sequence involving the prostate massage of a bull.

Serving Sara – The Furs

Sara (Elizabeth Hurley) wears two furs in the film, both for a decent stretch. The first is this trimmed coat, which may also be lined, but we never confirm that.

This is the part of the film where she convinces Joe to flip and serve her husband. I admit I find most arguments more convincing when delivered by . This auction listing suggests it's fake fur, though.

We shift into tracking-the-husband plot and a change of clothes is required for… reasons. Sara steals this outfit, capped by a , one that is most certainly not fake.

Let's talk about this jacket, shall we? It is clearly meant to evoke cheap 80s rabbit fur jackets, but is it really rabbit fur?

I would have been pretty sure a while back, but high-def really changes your perspective. It could be a tightly-sheared fox or coyote.

Ultimately it doesn't matter much outside of “she wears it well.”

Oh, but she does wear it through the prostate massage sequence. “Mentally prepare” is my only advice. Or just watch the edit; that's a great choice.

Between the trim and the jacket, this early 2000s bomb provides about ten minutes of Elizabeth Hurley in fur. That's a fine metric I presume was not fully considered in the Tomatometer's intricate rating systems. That pushes the film into a pretty decent 10% range, which is damn near amazing for something from the 2000s.

Should you want to see Liz wear fur in a movie that isn't terrible, at least you've got Bedazzled.
